How to Explain AI Solutions to Your Boss? (special for CTOs)

AIf you’re an eager engineer who reads too much about AI, sometimes you have difficulties to explain key concepts to others — especially your boss. That’s because we often assume people have the same level of knowledge as we do, but that’s not always the case.

There are actually more than 20,000+ AI tools for B2B and B2C (current count on Toolify is 24,592).

I think it is now clear why the AI revolution is different from Industry 4.0, how fast it is growing, and how enormous its effect on every business area has become.

AI revolution showed us its capabilities via Instagram, TikTok influencers. They showed us 2 big news:

  1. They build apps, AI-generated videos, storybooks in a really short time.
  2. They are all learning how to make money in the new AI-powered world.

If we are okay with the latest, let’s go to the main case of the article and learn how to explain AI to your bosses:

1. Keep It Simple and Business-Focused

Our beloved bosses are most probably busy with cash flow and investor relations, so they are not supposed to understand the technicalities of machine learning, neural networks, or deep learning models.

Many bosses will be eager to learn how AI benefits the business — such as saving time, reducing costs, or increasing revenue.

For example:

❌ Don’t say:

“Our AI model uses natural language processing and deep learning to analyze customer sentiment.”

✅ Say:

“Our AI tool helps us instantly understand customer feedback so we can respond faster and improve customer satisfaction.”

By shifting the focus to practical outcomes, you make AI more relatable and valuable in a business context.

2. Use Real-World Examples

Executives love 🥰 success stories.

Instead of explaining how AI works, show how others are already making a difference in their business:

  • Customer Services: AI-powered chatbots reduce customer service costs by handling simple inquiries.
  • Healthcare: AI helps doctors detect diseases earlier, improving patient outcomes.
(Example: Türkiye Health Data Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute)
  • Finance: AI-driven fraud detection systems save banks millions by spotting suspicious transactions.
(Example: How Commencis produces LLM for banking and finance industry)
  • Defence Industry: If you are in defence, investigate South Korean, Turkish, and Japanese defence projects — they are the fastest growing.

3. Show, Don’t Just Tell

Sometimes, a live demo is more powerful than speaking.

If you can, show a small AI-powered tool in action. Even something as simple as an AI-based email filter, chatbot, or data analysis tool can help your boss see AI’s potential.

You can use bolt.new to create an online tool by giving prompts. Then connect your tool with OpenAI or Gemini API.

If a live demo isn’t possible, create a short presentation with visuals or video clips that demonstrate AI’s capabilities. A picture (or an Instagram Reel) is worth a thousand words.

4. Technical: Use Structured Output Power

I am really a big fan of OpenAI API structured outputs. They are valuable for developers because you always get a consistent and reliable response.

Let’s assume that you need to create an AI chatbot that will book appointments for patients in a clinic.

This structured output will give you a JSON file containing the output from the chat with the patient — including all the fields you want (name, date, day, etc.).

👉 I advise you to create a demo with the structured output feature.

You can apply the same scenario to any industry.
